Dixon is a city in northern Solano County, California. It is located 23 miles from the state's capital, Sacramento. The first settlement in the Dixon area was founded by Elijah S. Silvey in 1852 during the California Gold Rush. By 1865, the community had a population of 150 people and had a general store, post office, and blacksmith.
Today, Dixon is home to two attractions on the National Register of Historic Places: the Jackson Fay Brown House (built in 1888 and designed by Nathaniel Dudley Goodell) and the Dixon Carnegie Library (a library built by funding from Scottish-American philanthropist and businessman Andrew Carnegie).
